Interesting post, Shai. I saw it just after I posted my last blog, where I say the exact opposite of what you say in here. I believe that we are coming full circle to a point where it is starting to make sense again to build systems from the ground up.
All the best for your future endeavours.
Martin

Ah, I forgot to explain the title of my reply.
In the 70s, headbands were rather in. You saw a lot of sportsmen wearing them. (They weren't so much a fashion accessory, mind you. More people had long hair then). When the 70s and early 80s were over, we considered headbands ridiculous. Also, in the 70s, many people were writing systems from the ground up. I see more people wearing headbands again these days. Remember, bell-bottoms made a comeback...

maybe in South Africa. It ain't coming back in the US for sure. :-)

and good luck to those who like to develop business solutions from scratch and good luck to the customers and whoever will need to maintain and extend them.

        :-P on the headbands.

Maybe I should clarify my standpoint: I don't think that business solutions ought to be built from scratch. I think that standards and platforms have evolved to such an extent that it is possible to model business requirements from scratch, instead of relying on out-of-the-box solutions (for which I would like to put forward my pig-in-the-shoebox analogy - see above link).
