Standards of the Fourth Kind
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/12685
Best practice standards can seem quite "alien" as they don't often always focus on software & technology ... but they provide the same benefit ...

Making the web accessible for everyone
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/12438
The new Web Content Accessibility Guideline 2.0, announced by the W3C, promises to make the Web, and Web applications, more accessible to people with disabilities. This blog explains what it means for developers and end users, and how SAP has been involved in its development. You can also expect to soon see governments creating legislation requiring its use!

How an SAP Standards Architect helps SAP deliver business value
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/8878
Standards, such as for a simple power plug, can deliver a lot of business value. Standards for application software are no different. Although many software standards exist, more are needed. However, until they are created and broadly adopted, the potential business value they offer is not being realized. This blog explains SAP’s approach to deciding which standards deliver business value; how SAP decides which standards to adopt or develop; and how the author, as an SAP Standards Architect, helps make this happen.

Realizing the “ultimate vision” for Enterprise SOA -- Tech Ed Session
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/7413
My "ultimate vision" for Enterprise SOA is the ability to quickly and economically build composite applications that are: developed by anyone; built on any technology; and that run anywhere. But I believe this will only happen if enterprise services and business process platforms are built on standards. This blog outlines my Tech Ed session that explains: how standards help achieve the ultimate vision; the missing standards that are needed; and how broadly standards are being adopted. Without a full set of widely adopted standards, realizing the "ultimate vision" will be harder.

Delivering business value through a comprehensive standards-based approach to enterprise SOA - Part 3
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/7384
This third blog provides a description of the next two categories in SAP's Standards Taxonomy: "Languages for Defining Business Semantics" these are formal languages that are used to define semantics in the same way that English is a language that is used to express ideas; and "Business Semantics" which are actual definitions that are written using the language, e.g. English.

Delivering business value through a comprehensive standards-based approach to enterprise SOA - Part 2
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/7309
This is the second in a series of four blogs that describe SAP's comprehensive approach to standards for enterprise SOA explaining how SAP's business process platform uses standards to deliver business value. This second blog provides an introduction to SAP's approach to standards for Enterprise SOA describing SAP's Standards Taxonomy - a way of categorizing and thinking about standards as well as covering the first category - "Technology Standards". The last two blogs will cover the remaining categories: business semantics and common standards.

Is Enterprise Software complex?
http://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/5256
Jeff Nolan, who used to work for SAP Ventures, thinks that Enterprise Software is complex without good reason. Well it might not be simple, but the reasons that Jeff gives for the complexity I think are plain wrong. This blog explains why.
