Tell me about your childhood...
Memories of TECHED2010 are fast fading as we get back to the regular work that we engage in however I thought it appropriate to mention that sharing your problems and experiences with others is much more valuable to you and to others than keeping your discoveries and challenges to yourself. Issues with an inability to scale a solution can be detected early on if there is content or experience available that parallels what you are trying to do. It is however our collective responsibility to actively share our experiences and knowledge if we really want to consider ourselves to be solutions oriented.

Enterprise Mobility the Next Gold Rush
The real-time enterprise is here! The wide spread adoption of smart phones is the key game changer enabling the real-time enterprise, or the ability for companies to connect with their ecosystems, processes and information in real time, anytime and from anywhere. With 4.6 billion mobile devices worldwide, this unprecedented opportunity to access processes and information at the point of action is reinventing the way companies conduct business. Terms like social commerce, social innovation and social intelligence are examples of how this new business paradigm is being defined. The convergence of social media, smart phones, pervasive access to broadband and a new breed of intuitive micro applications is providing fertile ground for business innovation.

Is your SAP Enterprise Architect a Technology Adventurer?
I wanted to call this blog technology Builder or Breaker but then I remembered that I had seen SAP Adventurer used as a job title by a former colleague on LinkedIn. Essentially, the rate at which the technology is changing and the breadth of the solutions offered by SAP and its partners makes it very difficult to keep up with all the changes and developments as an individual. Eventually you get to the point where you are so far behind that your usefulness on a given topic may be called into doubt. But is that fundamental premise completely true and is this keeping up to date enough?

Connecting People Finder to SAP People
People Finder is yet another SAP iPhone app released available in the Apple iTunes store. It connects to the Social Network Analyzer Prototype to visualize information on people and relationships. For this blog I had the People Finder app connected to our internal SNA prototype implementation called "SAP People".

SAP GUI A platform of/for change?
SAP GUI has been there with us for more than 30 years. It has been a silent performer working behind the scenes. Maybe its time to revamp it and give a major facelift. SAP GUI meets widgets .. We are not in Kansas anymore , its Pandora.

Do-it-yourself ALV: Customizable tables in Web Dynpro for Java
Nearly in every new web development project I hear the requirement to provide tables with customizable layouts. This ability is known by customers from the SAP ERP world as an ALV (ABAP List Viewer) and is always wanted in web UIs. Unfortunately, such a functionality is only available in Web Dynpro for ABAP and in the Visual Composer CE 7.1 so far. There is no such widget in the Web Dynpro for Java.
The most important functionality of ALV is the ability to hide unneeded columns of the table. The user can easily select columns important in his working context. That also helps to avoid horizontal scroll bar in case of very long tables.
In this blog I will show how to implement such a functionality generically to be able to use it later with 3 lines of code on every table placed in the Web Dynpro for Java view.

Accelerating ABAP Development with Power of Scripts, Templates, Cockpits, Code Generators & Runtime Engines - Part I
The SAP software development involves implementation of increasingly complex applications. The standard programming techniques that use 3GL languages like ABAP are a little help in making the development process faster and developed applications smaller and easier to maintain. This document describes how to accelerate ABAP development by at least an order of magnitude with power of 4GL scripts, templates, cockpits, code generators and/or runtime engines. The same techniques apply to other development environments and languages; e.g., Java, C/C++.
