Two New SAP Mentors from the Business Objects Community
Update:There were problems with accessing the podcasts. We are hosting them now on our own servers. Enjoy.
Please welcome two new additions to our very selective group
of SAP
Mentors. We are welcoming and embracing the Business Objects community on
every level. Therefore we are happy that Brian Bischof and Ingo Hilgefort are our newest SAP Mentors. Ingo just came back from giving a two week training in Australia and Brian is using a wiki to improve his Crystal books. Jan. 28, 2008

One of the most active Community Member at TechEd in the last SAP TechEds was Eddy De Clercq also known as Grumpy.
Unfortunately Eddy was not able to come to TechEd this year. We knew that we will miss him and that he will be here in spirit. So we created a cut out almost life size version of him. Oct. 18, 2007

Update: Great news. Elvira Wallis Senior Vice President Product Management SAP NetWeaver is joining fellow executives on Monday the first for the Townhall meeting and is looking forward to your questions.
SDN old timers may remember the SDN Meets Labs that we had in Palo Alto, Walldorf and Bangalore in 2005. When I met Chris Harris earlier this year in Melbourne he fondly recalled the executive panel: An open forum, where we got 4-5 of SAP executives together and for an hour asked them questions.

Last year I wrote "And the winners are ..." when I posted the Top Contributor List for 2005. We all are a year older and may be even a bit wiser now. These are no winners. There was no chance at play. Hard work, blood, sweat and tears is needed for you to make the Top Contributor list. Free SAP TechEd Ticket ...
This year the SAP TechEd will again be the place where SDN will come alive. Where all the top SAP developers come together. Where you will be able to learn and actually try out the latest and greatest during hands on sessions. Where you will meet your fellow SDNers, the ones that until now you only know their tiny Weblogger pictures and forum posts Where Craig will make fun of you during the SDN Quiz. Apr. 5, 2006

Mister SDN Goes to Walldorf
I was gone last week and I don't think anyone out here on SDN land was missing me. That's how it should be. You are in good hands with the rest of the SDN Team. I painted the baby's room in time for the first of May release date and no we don't want early delivery :-) Even though I was on vacation, I finally was able to connect ... Mar. 6, 2006

Frivolous Weblog Content and Topic Comments
The Weblog content ranges from very serious with step by step explanations, code sample and screen shots to the lighter side of Humor at SAP. Personally I love to be entertained, surprised, made fun of. Others like to keep it separate: Work is work and play is play. Jan. 4, 2006

SAP NetWeaver Made Easy Event
Sorry for the short notice. Tomorrow morning Friday 9th of December Wipro is having an SAP NetWeaver Made Easy event in San Jose California. They have lined up some interesting speakers and case studies from Apple, Weyerhaeuser, eBay and Forrester. SAP is supporting the event: Denise Vu Broady will introduce the ESA adoption program and I was asked to moderate the event. I feel honored and hope to live up to the expectations. Dec. 8, 2005

Unfortunately I wasn't as involved in the SAP Developer Chalange as I would have liked to be. But of course I had to be in the audience when the top SAP employee developers present what they hacked together over the weekend. There was a long standing request in the SDN Forums to have "Sticky Notes" functionality: Moderators can mark a thread as Sticky
and it will always be the top post in that forum. SDNers where jokingly calling me the Sticky Man because we didn't deliver that functionality for so long. Today with a couple of other forum imporvements the Sticky Notes were implemented. Hurray. Nov. 28, 2005

Top 100 SDN Contributors get in for Free
It is getting tougher and tougher to be part of the Top 50 SDN Contributors. Actually today for the first time you need more then 500 points to be listed. We will introduce some new reports soon, but until then I thought I list you the top 100 and it takes 278 SDN points to be part of this list.
What are these points good for besides ranking? Well, if you are listed in this Weblog you get in for free to any one of the SDN meets Labs or SDN Road Trip events. Now if you are in the top 10 of SDN, you can even bring a friend with you, who gets in for free too. Mar. 3, 2005

When I wrote the little profile about Roberto Negro it turned out that he is from south of Italy and he promised that if I ever visit him, he will provide me with a beautiful personal hammock with white lettering on the back saying, I am relaxing here thanks to SDN ! Best Of ...
What? It is December already, didn't we just yesterday open up SDN for the world to see? And that was in the fall of 2003. Lots and lots of content has been accumulated on SDN since. The days are getting shorter and there is more sparkle in the windows of the houses, it's the season to look back and reflect: What was the best on SDN so far? Dec. 2, 2004

Venture Venture
Today I got an email from a friend regarding an interview with VC Superman Don Valentine where he says things like:
SAP is the noisiest non-participant in the business
What? But then I read Jeff Nolan's excellent fisking of the interview and the world is in order again.

So we have the Top Contributor list with the four Übergeeks:

Not that we need a reminder of what is popular on SDN, but check the Top 25 Weblogs: 4 of the top 6 Weblog posts are ABAP related. Horst Keller is doing an excellent job with his ABAP Geek series and is dominating the charts like the Beatles in the 60s on place 1, 2, 4, 6, 10 and 21. Nov. 15, 2004

Shai Agassi Keynote: Achieving Enterprise Agility
As Dagfinn Parnas mentions in his SAP TechEd summary : Interesting key notes from technically adapt SAP leaders (especially Shai Agassi's keynote was excellent) You may have missed Shai's keynote because of one reason or the other, but next Weekend on the 6th of November you will have another chance to hear him in Stanford at the Accelerating Change Conference where he will talk about Achieving Enterprise Agility. The event is a lot more intimate and cheaper too. Oct. 27, 2004

Let the sunshine in ...
Finally you don't need to sign up to read SDN content. As DJ Adams wrote after the first SDN contributor meet in Walldorf:
The fact that SDN remains largely a black box (or is that a black hole?) in the general web universe has largely to do with the authentication requirements I've already mentioned. As soon as those requirements go away, SDN can partake of the link love that other communities are blessed with. Hurray, since last Thursday those requirements are gone. Oct. 26, 2004

End of the Guessing Game
Who is the most prolific poster in the ABAP forum? Until today, you had to
go through the posts and check the names and the number of posts marked next
to their names, but these posts may have been done in a different forum. All
of that guessing is history. On the first page of the forum you see the top
3 posters and there is a link to the complete list too. The top poster in the
ABAP forum is Peter
Inotai with 71 posts, and he is not even working for SAP, same with Lutz

One neat feature of the new forums is, that you can see who is currently reading, posting, or answering there. Even has a little flag showing how international the SDN developers are. Feb. 20, 2004

This year on the O'Reilly Radar
From sfar you would think O'Reilly
is a book publisher and organizer of Conferences.
At the Emerging
Technology Conference this week Tim said that what they are really doing
is listening to what the geeks/hackers are brewing with the conferences giving
them a platform to exchange ideas. Feb. 13, 2004

SDN and Social Networking?
The hottest thing in the last 12 month in the Silicon Valley was Social Software,
with Friendster, LinkedIn,
Tribe all getting big rounds of venture funding.
The whole space got into a feverish pitch the last two weeks since Google opened
theirs for beta testing: Orkut. What kind of Friend of a Friend(FOAF) services would make sense within the SDN environment? Feb. 3, 2004

Automatic Personalized Search at the Internet Archive
Anna Patterson is the Queen of the geeks, at least for me :-) On the side, while pregnant, she
wrote a search engine for the Internet
Archive which clocks in at 150,000 lines of plain POSIX C code for the indexer and 50,000 lines for the server side, with some neat features like automatic
personalization. Wow. Jan. 22, 2004

Brain User Interface?
John
Smart predicts the coming of the Linguistic
User Interface(LUI) at around 2020. Microsoft
Research is already working on it, actually
voice recognition, the first step towards a LUI, will be an integral part of
Longhorn. Same idea at SAP,
voice can be used as one of the many channels to interact
with their applications. Dec. 6, 2003

Create your own Viewpoint on SDN
SAP ViewPoint
is one of the best kept secrets within SDN, currently still hidden in the Pilot
area. It is the place to go, if you want an easy overview of all the documents
that have been added to the SAP Developer Network within the last 4 weeks. Not
only that, SAP
ViewPoint also gives you the ability to bring your own interest into focus. Oct. 29, 2003

Newsreaders give Weblog Content extra Speed
If you have looked around the Weblog area within SDN, you probably stumbled over the following icon:
