Is there over-emphasis on RoI ?
Emphasizing on RoI actually means aiming at the least. What must be aimed at is the 'great expectations' of the client and ASAP too. In both the cases what appears desirable is a systematic effort.
Information Technology Investment Management A Framework for Assessing and Improving Process Maturity appears to provide a good guidance.

Voluntary Initiatives of CSR
How organizations in different sectors address CSR?
Knowing about these initiatives, it is felt, would provide a good insight into the importance of appropriateness in promoting social responsibility in the respective sector.

WWW = Way to a Wiser World!
Based on my search in the internet on the topic of Orgaanizational Wisdom I tend to form a view that the publication of these two books, one in 1998 and the other in 2007, the presentation by JPCarlisle in 2006 and many more resources in the web may be considered as an indication of the recent progress in the subject. The Chicago University's Arete Initiative and other initiatives by individuals reflected by the number of websites may certainly be taken to indicate the interest and concern with the subject. Hence we may reasonably conclude that the 'Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom' trajectory appears to be becoming an interesting area of study. This seems to give hope that IT would eventually help a wiser world dawn as a continuum of processing of data, information and knowledge so far.

A well secured Information System, may facilitate willing adoption of BPM! - Part 3
On the premise that a secure information system may be a facilitative factor for adoption of BPM, it was suggested that of the various models available for ISMS, the ISO/IEC Standard 27001:2005 may be considered for implementation by organizations as it promotes systems approach and process approach.
In the earlier two blogs on this topic, an overview of the core operative clauses and the control objectives were covered. In this blog the Supportive clauses, informative clauses and the documentation requirements are being briefly described to complete the glimpse on the Standard.

A Glimpse at the ISO/IEC Standard 27001:2005 on ISMS

A well secured Information System, may facilitate willing adoption of BPM!
Good security of information systems may be considered as a facilitative factor for adoption of BPM by an organization.
Of the various models available for ISMS, the ISO/IEC Standard 27001:2005 may be considered for adoption as it promotes systems approach and process approach.
The Standard has core operative clauses and supportive clauses as requirements for the ISMS.
The Standard is elaborate and provides a list of control objectives and controls to choose from.
The implementation of the supportive clauses and study of the references are equally important for establishing the ISMS.
This, it is hoped, may be an interesting assignment to the BPX in order to pave the way for BPM adoption by organizations, if any of the organizations are not inclined due to security reasons.
An attempt is made through this article to give a glimpse of the Standard by trying to cover from overall view to central issue and then to the core points of controls. Sep. 8, 2009

A window view on Sustainability!
There may be many ways to understand Sustainability. I, in this blog, have suggested visiting Wikipedia and reading the book edited by Richard Welford.
This may be a limited approach to understand the subject. But it appeared a good place to start.
One may further visit organizations, visit places and regions, discuss real issues faced and solved by them in their context, talk to academics and so on.
With such knowledge the understanding would no longer be fractured, we can hope.

Thinking about CSR and the next step forward ! Part 2(c)
In this blog I have listed the major clauses, the sub-clauses each major clause wise, the core subjects and the issues addressed under each core subject, and about the model.
I have only tried to make it be presented step by step so that the volume of writing does not seem weighing.
It is hoped that it would provide a perspective to sequentially understand the contents of the Standard.
For the reflective readers of the community this level of details would be enough to provide an overview, it was thought. It is posted for a leisurely reading, dwelling on one heading after another.

Thinking about CSR and the next step forward ! Part 2(b)
In my earlier blog I have referred to the Working Draft of the Guide for Social Responsibility. It has now become the Committee Draft, and hence this update.
Studying the standard as it takes shape would enable an organization to be in the fore front and adopt it as soon as it gets released. The guide has already taken considerable time for its formulation due to extended consultations and as the social issues to be attended to are on the increase, it is considered that a quick adoption would be a fitting response from the corporate sector. Engaging the people for an understanding of processes.
Keeping in view that BPM is about better interaction of people, process and technology, and assuming that understanding of process approach by people is critical to adoption of BPM in companies, this blog is about certain ways to engage people to enable them to know more in this direction. Attention to quality at the time of downturn
It is at times such as the current one that high end aims would be put on standby. A tendency may come up to treat planning for future etc as non- value adding activities and to be kept in the margin and focus more attention on 'doing' only. Though certainly one may not be able to take up investment-oriented projects, one can certainly allot time for studying, thinking and discussing such matters in small groups, which would become handy, the moment we again get into the din and bustle of activity. A small trip to know Rachel Carson. Please join!
In work, for certain themes, inspiration is a desirable element to sustain our contribution.
Environment management is one such theme and in this area of work one inspirational person is Rachel Carson. One reference to her name in a book kindled me to know about her and I found it such a rewarding experience and she remained my inspiration there after. My intention in this blog is to direct the readers to relevant websites without trying make my writing about her.

Goind Beyond Compliance - Part 2
Selected list of some of the business principles as further information to BPXs, for it is considered desirable that they are well versed with expectations of the external world, so that processes in an organization connect to it , if an organization has to survive and grow.
It is felt that a BPX may not only be a link between IT and business but also between external world and the corporate and between the plant and the corporate office.
It is aimed at providing a glimpse of various initiatives, which provide a choice to an organization.
