With SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SAP's enhancement package concept also becomes available for the SAP NetWeaver platform. If you install it you will find updates of many usage types, including SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP, AS Java, BI, BI Java, DI, etc.

SAP enhancement packages are developed according to rules that also apply to Support Packages. Therefore, you can update a selection of systems in your landscape - depending on the usage types you want to update - without compromising the interoperability with those systems you leave untouched. There are three ways to get a system with the capabilities of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including enhancement package 1: Install it directly, upgrade an existing system of SAP NetWeaver 2004, or update an existing SAP NetWeaver 7.0.

To update an existing SAP NetWeaver 7.0 system you use the SAP Enhancement Package Installer (SAPehpi), which will become available together with SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0: It provides a guided procedure, leading you through all update steps and lets you install the SAP enhancement packages with minimized downtime. SAPehpi will be used for both for SAP NetWeaver and SAP ERP.
