Consider a landscape which is connected to central Solution Manager System, there are several SAP components in our system landscape, e.g. SAP R/3 and SAP MDM.

The SAP MDM system is based on data which is already present in SAP R/3 like material no etc, and the systems cooperate in many business scenarios. Customizing settings which define business processes across systems should be synchronized for smooth and correct exchange of data.

SAP Solution Manager comprises of 2 two tools to achieve the Synchronization

Customizing Scout and Customizing Distribution.

In this article we explore Customizing scout and the way to compare two customizing objects

This Customizing object can be in separate system or clients or BC Sets.

Customizing Scout is a tool which compares customizing objects in a system in an SAP system landscape, with customizing objects in an ERP system.  Certain customizing objects which must be synchronized in a development landscape are predefined in the system for selected components which are termed as Synchronization Objects.

To read more about Synchronization Objects refer below link.

We can select synchronization objects and other customizing objects for the comparison with the Synchronization Group Editor.

Please follow the link to explore Synchronization Group Editor in detail.

A synchronization group can comprise the following objects:·

Customizing objects which are predefined in the system as synchronization-relevant for a software component which is Synchronization Objects. The system contains information about which customizing objects in SAP R/3 correspond to these synchronization objects (mapping).·

  •   Customizing objects which you select by IMG activity·
  •   Customizing objects whose object name and type you enter manually·
  •   other synchronization groups

Let us do a comparison between 2 SAP Solution Manager Systems

Step 1: Create a project in Project Administration or solar_project_admin transaction

Add both the systems in system landscape tab in this project.

Pre-requisite is the BASIS settings needed like RFC and Solution should be defined first.

Step 2: Enter Transaction SCOUT

The following screen will appear

Select the ROLE (here we have selected Development System) and project name created in Step 1 and press execute.

Step 3: Select the Entry Target system and click the Comparison Tab, the following pop up will appear:

Enter the source system details and choose All synchronization objects.

Step 4: Press the execute button. The system checks whether you have the authorizations for such a comparison and whether an RFC destination exists. If not, a log is displayed as shown below.

The meaning of above status values are:

Comparison may not be possible for the following reasons:·

  •  Process cancelled·
  • The user has no display authorization in the source or target system·
  • Communication error (RFC)·
  • Source or target system crash

In the upcoming blog we explore more and go a bit advanced.
