Clarity, transparency, openness, visibility.

I hope you would agree that it is a very bold move for a global company to promote these uncommon qualities. SAP is doing just this, not simply as its internal company values, but in a highly-public "Clear" communications campaign.

These are refreshingly descriptive terms in the midst of today's economic situation whose main causes have arguably been scandalously hidden conflicts of interest and risk-taking. It is very reassuring how our customers have responded very favorably to the message in this campaign. I would like you, our academic community members, to be aware of this new advertising message and the associated resources which can be included in your lectures. See the subject URL -http://www.clearnewworld.com/index.aspx.

When describing to students who SAP is, the campaign message provides a strong sense of our purpose and personality. You will also find case studies which demonstrate how leading firms BASF, Forbes, and Volkswagen embrace clarity and improve performance by employing SAP solutions in their organizations. Five videos present themes of financial visibility, sustainability, customer relationships, operational efficiency, and managing risk and compliance. Various webpages and downloadable documents, including a concise strategic white paper, illustrate the benefits of the "Clear Enterprise" in today's environment.

Finally, I have to apologize for stooping to obfuscation in my blog title, especially considering the theme of this entry!

no need to apologize...this is a business platform after all and even if we don't like commercials that are too crass we all react to subliminal messages. i can't imagine any software solution being successful without being a technology of choice for students and professors alike...apple, unix, microsoft, ibm...the list just goes on.

The academic community has tremendous influence potential. I'm thinking of how it was universities (and students) who pushed the DoD into opening its channels making ArPanet the internet. Academia has a moral duty to push topics of transparency, accountability, sustainability. Would love to hear more stories (here) of professors taking up the clarion call.
