Business Object Search in ERP 6.0 systems is based on the SAP NetWeaver Search Engine Service (SES). SES provides a search and indexing framework that enables users to search for business objects (structured data) using the search engine technology of Search and Classification (TREX), including full text search and fuzzy search. There is a large number of SAP Applications that use SES to offer a search for structured data. Currently more than 50 business object types have implemented the SES methods.

A few days ago SAP Note 1345777 has been published that answers frequently asked questions about the usage of SES. The document covers administrative aspects such as backup and recovery and high availability as well as performance related topics helping you to improve the overall performance of an SES installation

The SES options are restricted to indexing and searching within a single SAP system (one system ID (SID)). To extend the range of your search, use SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search. SAP ERP 6.0 systems can be integrated into SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search as search service providers. These are systems and services that return search results to Enterprise Search using their own search technology.

As a result any optimization described in the SAP Note 1345777 for SES based search scenarios can be leveraged by SAP NetWeaver Enterprise as well.

    Hi,

    Great news!
    Many thanks for sharing this!!

Just got a couple of questions (I didn't find the OSS note in English, I guess it is pretty new?):
    1) Is the SES taking authorizations into account when a search is performed, I mean the authorizations users may have on Business Objects (even HR structural ones)?
    2) Is there a place where the list of Business objects can be found?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,
    Guillaume

      Hi Guillaume,

yes your are right, that the SAP Note is brand-new and it has been created in German. It is currently being translated. As soon as it is available the English version will pop up when you click on the link mentioned above.

      1) A SES developer has to filter SES the search result being delivered by TREX regarding the users authorizations. (late binding)

When being integrated into SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search an SES system is thus connected as a search service provider.

      2) A list of SES search enabled objects can be found in the following presentation (slide 14)

      Best regards,
      André
