Last year colleague Craig Cmehil challenged me to create a fun evening event at SAP  TechEd for the Business Process Expert Community.  With help from folks like Marc Dietrich and Ann Rosenberg we launched the first Process Design Slam.  As Thingamy author Sigurd Rinde might have said (tongue in check) we decided this year "not to drop IT".

So this year, instead of dropping "it", we are expanding the Process Design Slam to include a virtual community collaboration project.  And guess what? It really needs to include geeks as well as process designers because the goal is to not only to model a solution but to create an executable one.

How to create such an activity?

First: invite some really smart folks you know (see preliminary list here ) and allow additional really smart folks to sign up to join the virtual collaboration

Next: figure out topics that will interest BPM experts and practitioners (see brainstorming here) and invite real customers to post real business problems

Importantly: Give folks autonomy to define how to resolve the business challenges, the tools they will use, the roles of the participants, the storyboard around the challenge that helps articulate the business problem to a wider audience.

So starting now we are gathering virtual forces.

And these participants will star in the Process Design Slam live events.

Think you would like to learn more about agile solution creation?  Want to rub elbows with smart thinkers?  Interested in getting access to some interesting BPM tools?

Do take a look at what is beginning to evolve in the Process Design Slam wiki space.
