During a criminal investigation, it is critical for police agents to be able to visualize relationships, be it among persons (criminals, witnesses, victims or suspects) or among cases. Moving forward in its objective to provide a 360 degrees of integration for public security processes, three SAP entities teamed up to provide advanced analytics capabilities in an integrated manner. This has been achieved by combining several technologies:

First, we have ICM, which is SAP solution to handle criminal cases.

Second, we have the Social Network Analyser prototype (aka SNA). SNA is a prototype from the SAP Business Objects Innovation Center in Paris, focusing on the exposure of social network relationships. It has initially been done for analyzing social networks of companies (such as org charts and collaborative web sites).

The novelty is the integration of SNA together with ICM. This integration has been done by SAP Research France (located in Sophia Antipolis) and the German SAP Public Security Center of Excellence. This online video shows the parsing of a police criminal entities system containing the social network related to criminal activities. These information are stored in the police SAP ICM system, and are connected to SNA. We can see in this video that the police agent starts by seeing the whole social networks information. Yet rather quickly, he focuses on a specific criminal case, and is interested by one of the related suspect.
