Last week, the company began showing pre-beta versions of several new software as a service technologies, code named 12 Sprints and Kona, one meant to provide a collaborative decision-making environment, the other to provide users with an on demand BI experience.   Though I do adore the concept of utilizing the power of Web2.0 philosophy in ERP applications, the logic of Kona is not quite clear to me.
  It is an on-demand software, meaning it is hosted by SAP and customers use it whenever they need. On the other hand, BI data is stored in the customer database. How does Kona get data from a remote DB, on demand?

    Hi Adam - thanks for your question. I won't comment on Kona itself since it's in pre-beta, but this previous post outlines two general options for updating data in our currently available on-demand BI applications:

          Thanks a lot, it is clear now. Instead of keeping BI data and logic locally, once data is extracted, it gets transferred to the hosted db, and BI logic is applied on demand. Or, even data transfer is initiated upon demand.
          This is something similar to Business by Design, restricted for BI
