  • 3.x to 7.x objects migration
2010-02-19 11:52:13 Tanuj Bolisetty Business Card [Reply]

    Hi,

We are running on BW 7.0 but we are still using 3.x objects. We know there are many security changes also if we move to 7.x objects .

What kind of help does SAP provide in the migration of objects and security roles in the new BW 7.2 version which doesnot exist in BW 7.0

      Hello Tanuj,

There is a migration tool for switching to the new analysis authorization concept. This can be found in your BW 7.0 system, program RSEC_MIGRATION

One thing to note is that the migration may require some manual intervention depending upon how complex the security is. Also, the security method prior to analysis authorizations will not be supported in versions after BW 7.0, so migration is something you should look into.

  • Non-case sensitive search in F4

Hi Sarah. Thanks for sharing this info.

One infor I cannot find so far in 7.2 information is if non-case sensitive search will be supported in value help (F4) for values selection on selection screen.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for sharing this!

    I have some questions:

    1) Do you have any info on the source system plug-in support for ERP, CRM, APO etc.?

    2) You had mentioned Dual stack is not a supported scenario for upgrade but there are some workarounds available. Do you have more info on the workarounds? Will this be available during ramp-up?

    3) Any dependency on Uni-code for the upgrade to BW 7.2? Are Non-unicode systems are upgradeable?

    4) Can we upgrade from BW 3.5 to BW 7.2 directly?

    Thanks!

    Deepu

      Hi Deepu,

      To answer your questions:

1)It depends what version your source systems are on, generaly these days you need to have the PI_BASIS release of 2005_1

2)There are a few options with the dual stack, it depends if you have any development in your Java instance or not. 1- you could uninstall the java upgrade to 7.20 and re-install java as a seperate SID as 7.20 post upgrade or 2- you may need to look at extracting java from your environment into a seperate instance and upgrading to 7.20 (this option is quite a bit more involved).

3)You are not bound to migrating to Unicode when upgrading to BW 7.20. If you perform a new installation the new installation however will be Unicode.

4)You can upgrade directly from BW 3.5 to 7.20

      Hope that helps!

It would be great to have sperarate Blog on Spliting a dual stack or a NW Know How call on all the detail steps.

What are the considerations if you have Content in your BI Portal and/or heavy use of KM for Bex report delivery.

        Would URLS, etc change.
What are the "quite a bit more involved" steps needed to extrate java into sepearate instance than upgrade.

        Thanks

I had caught glimpses of 7.2 and I was impressed with it, esp the features of the explorer/BWA part. Its a lil disappointing to know about the limitations cause we kinda have all of them. Still hoping the FINBASIS and SEM part gets resolved soon.

Well the good news is that the SEM addons will be supported in 7.30 which is coming out in the later have of 2010.

When you refer to the component "SEM-BW", does that include the BPS Excel based data input layouts as well as the Web based BPS layouts?
I know there's a ton of functionality within SEM-BW, I'm tryin to clarify if we ONLY use the transactional infocube update functionality of a BPS layout, will we be able to continue to have this functionality in BW 7.20 or have to wait for 7.30?

          Hello Alex,

If your BW system has the SEM addons installed, you will not be able to upgrade to 7.20 regardless of the actual usage of the functionality in your system. If these addons exist in transaction SAINT, you will have to wait until BW version 7.30.
