I'm currently involved with a PI project where we are working with SAP PI 7.11, which is the newest release of the PI.

We get some periodic errors in the tool. When we are trying to add interfaces to actions the search help does not work. It is not something that affect all developers on the system. It is one of the bugs you don't what to report into the OSS system, because it is a low priority and there is a work around. But is anybody better of that this bug will continue to exists. It will cause other people to have problems at other times.

If it bug affected main stream users it would be a high priority to fix the bug. But since it is only affecting a few developers then nobody cares. My guess is that you also will find problems like this in Developer studio and you have to use the workarounds.

For 12sprints has implemented UserVoice where all users can report bugs. When you are reporting a bug other you are asked if the bug is similar to any other users bug and then you can vote for that bug. This tool then is a crowd sourced way to make products better, so you can get more bugs and features captured.

It does require a change in the organization to work on changing all the bugs and feature improvements. And there still need to be the official channels so high profile projects can get the most important features fixed in time for their go-live. But using something to create more input to the funnel of ideas could give much better support for users requests.

Even the most trivial of bugs, documentation inadequacies and foibles in installation and maintenance should always be reported, even if development assigns a 'fresher' to fixing them, you cannot engage in a Quality Improvement Process if you don't have feedback. Part of the problem is that customers, support and consultants need to be retrained in the process of providing feedback.

I agree. But the how process around the bug reporting is to complex. I just want to make a fire and forget with the bug. But then SAP wants access to my PI system and I have to go 5 different levels of support.
