We all know what a moderator does and most of us know the moderators of the topics that interest us: but we don't often pause as a community and take a moment to appreciate our moderators. [The full list can be found on the wiki, Forum Moderators and Wiki Moderators.]

Our moderators on a daily basis, help guide our forums, blogs and wiki. They are there to teach, maintain order, and ensure that the community follows our guidelines.

Each moderator has his/her own style. There are those who are quiet and work more behind the scenes while others are more visible in their roles. Some are direct while some gently try to modify behavior. There are those who believe in giving you the tools to teach yourself and those who hold your hand all the way.

Our moderators also have the difficult responsibility of dealing with the less pleasant side of the community, such as: flame wars, plagiarism, copyrighted material, point hunters... but they keep at it and most of them even manage to maintain their cheery disposition while helping ensure higher quality and lowering the noise of the site.

Please join the SCN team in saying thank you to all our moderators!!!  Together as a group, they are caring teachers to whom we all owe a heartfelt thank you!  Nothing can replace a good moderator!

or one who presides over a meeting, forum, or debate is the dictionary defination, but Gali says it so much more eloquently. And wikipedia says: "Almost all moderators on all forums can move discussions to different sections of the forum, close discussions, edit the content of individual postings, answer questions (or help people with problems), and 'stick' discussions so they remain visible in their forum section even if no new postings are made to them. Different forums may give their moderators further powers, such as being able to block/ban people from the message board"
No where does it say humane, caring, generous, didactic, smart, helpful, supportive. But we have those characteristics in the DNA of our "M"s too and Gali highlights them.
Thanks to those who validate what each of us is trying to do here.

A big thank you from me to all the new and old moderators, as each of you begin to take of your charge and begin to moderate your topic areas we begin to see increases in quality and general morale and for that I am grateful, without the moderators the community would not be what it is today and each of you deserve a huge round of applause.
