I just would like share a cool feature I discovered recently. After installing SAPGUI 7.10 SP7 the regular expression was active in the new ABAP editor and regular expressions was possible in the search. Even there was a little help as a drop down. See screenshot.

It seems ‘.’ works fine, however ‘*’ didn’t work for me. I guess some fix will come with the next SP.

The good thing is that this feature only requires frontend patch, it works even on any basis 6.20 based system (e.g.: SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.70), which has the new ABAP editor installed via Basis SP.

The only info I found regarding this feature is OSS Note 1125102 - Regular Expression searching disabled in new ABAP editor, however there is not much information here, only confirming SP7.
