Do-it-yourself ALV: Customizable tables in Web Dynpro for Java
Nearly in every new web development project I hear the requirement to provide tables with customizable layouts. This ability is known by customers from the SAP ERP world as an ALV (ABAP List Viewer) and is always wanted in web UIs. Unfortunately, such a functionality is only available in Web Dynpro for ABAP and in the Visual Composer CE 7.1 so far. There is no such widget in the Web Dynpro for Java.
The most important functionality of ALV is the ability to hide unneeded columns of the table. The user can easily select columns important in his working context. That also helps to avoid horizontal scroll bar in case of very long tables.
In this blog I will show how to implement such a functionality generically to be able to use it later with 3 lines of code on every table placed in the Web Dynpro for Java view.

Accelerating ABAP Development with Power of Scripts, Templates, Cockpits, Code Generators & Runtime Engines - Part I
The SAP software development involves implementation of increasingly complex applications. The standard programming techniques that use 3GL languages like ABAP are a little help in making the development process faster and developed applications smaller and easier to maintain. This document describes how to accelerate ABAP development by at least an order of magnitude with power of 4GL scripts, templates, cockpits, code generators and/or runtime engines. The same techniques apply to other development environments and languages; e.g., Java, C/C++.

Web 2.0 for security with citizens and Government
Communications is critical in emergency management and contingency planning. The 2009 Inauguration represents a major event where dozens of agencies with different missions will be observing and providing status and incident reports. Voice and data communications must work, but, eliminating clutter and focusing on the most critical reports is key to security.

SAP EcoHub: Discover Evaluate & now ...BUY !
SAP EcoHub: Discover-Evaluate & now ...BUY
SAP Ecohub introduced new capability to buy solutions, listed on the hub. Initial rollout includes 6 products but it can be argued that it has larger implications in that it opens up a channel for developers to create interesting widgets and applications and offer this to the wider community of customers who could benefit from it.

Timeless Software: Part 3
Large-scale, enterprise software, like SAP ERP, must be able to leverage and adapt to change while delivering continuity and reliability at low cost. SAP software is architected on principles that enable fast integration of, and the ability to reliably manage and exploit, changing and emerging technologies.

Timeless Software: Part 2
The need for maximum efficiency and flexibility of expression in content creation has led to a proliferation of programming languages. The resulting heterogeneous language landscapes present challenges to optimize execution at run-time. Run-time efficiencies can be achieved by separating meaning from optimization and managing state across layers of abstraction. Finally, maintaining security and reliability in the face of constant change and adaptation requires a powerful and flexible lifecycle management system.
